Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is the largest state park in Florida, at almost 85,000 acres. It is the orchid capital of Florida, with almost 50 species of native orchids, which many are considered rare or endangered. This video highlights the new visitor's pavilion and boardwalk at Big Bend.

A healthy male Florida black bear destroyed a camera trap case and camera & lens. This series of videos was captured over a 10 minute period as the bear sat down in front of the case and started bighting and clawing the contents of the camera case. He destroyed the case, camera, lens, and trigger during his attack. Location: South Florida Big Cypress.

This short video shows a mama Florida black bear digging a hole to drink from. This was filmed at the end of Florida's dry season. In fact, you can hear the start of a rain shower in the video. After she digs the hold, she drinks from it. Then her juvenile daughter drinks from the hole. Filmed in Fakahatchee Strand.

Here is a series of short video clips showing an Everglades mink crossing Janes Scenic Drive in Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. It was crossing to the right to get crawfish. Then once it caught a crawfish, it quickly rushed back to its den. Everglades mink are extremely rare and almost exclusively found in Fakahatchee.

An alligator may warn you that it is uneasy about how close you are to it. It takes in a sizable amount of air and blows it out, producing a hissing sound. In the video, you can see how the gator's body is slowly getting smaller as it is letting out the air.

This mama bear spent a good part of a day hanging around a bear marking tree with her young cub. While he was playing and climbing the tree, she was sniffing both marking trees and showing the flehmen response as she was sniffing the air for any other bears. This healthy male Florida black bear visited this local scratching tree 3 times in 4 days. A bear uses trees like this not to simply scratch his back, but to leave his scent as an indicator for females in the area that he is ready to mate.
